History & Hopes

For 20 years I have lived, loved, learned and served alongside communities and individuals whose identities and experiences place them at a higher risk for disparities in care and outcomes within our society’s social service, medical, and mental healthcare systems and institutions.

As a social worker, I had committed to being a presence of love, justice and healing within existing systems, and I spent many years practicing and advocating for models of harm reduction, integration and trauma-informed care inside of existing organizations and institutions, in an effort to address and reduce these disparities.

As a White, cisgender person with two advanced degrees and the ability to practice in clinical/medical settings, I poured my privilege and my energy into humanizing the ways in which human service organizations and institutions respond to those who have been overlooked or excluded, only to find that my intersecting marginalized, minoritized and vulnerable identities suffered within these dominant models of care.

As a person with chronic health conditions and multiple Queer identities, despite my training and high degree of health literacy, I have experienced harm both receiving and providing services within existing systems, which can be prone to oppressive, ableist, queer-phobic and patriarchal ways of thinking and practicing. I have witnessed first-hand the ways in which these systems can be resistant to change, even in the interest of justice. I struggled with participating in systems that were not receptive to growth opportunities, and worried that I was participating in perpetuating harm upon the individuals and communities who needed their care.

I want to create an inclusive, relational, humane approach to care & co-healing that is actively committed to identifying, examining, deconstructing and dismantling the harmful aspects of existing systems of care, while still retaining the ability to offer high-quality support and resources that are affordable, accessible, equitable, and committed to social justice. Cammino Consulting is the seed of that dream.

Too often, when mental health professionals decide to step outside of systems and institutions that don’t uphold our values or provide for our needs and the needs of those who consult with us, we struggle to remain accessible and affordable to the communities we care about supporting. I am hoping to explore and co-create a path that brings abolitionist ideals to mental health care & wellness support through the inspiration of liberation, community care, and mutual aid models of community and healing. My dream would be to grow this community through collaboration and resource-sharing into a new model of holistic, integrative, relational healing care.
